Constitutional Review Committee to Undertake Hearings

Parliament

The Constitutional Review Committee is to embark on extensive public consultations in order to fulfil its mandate.

The Committee was tasked with reviewing Section 25 of the Constitution and proposing constitutional amendments to allow for the expropriation of land in the public interest without compensation.

Consultations will commence in April 2018 with an invitation for oral and written submissions.

“The public will have a month to respond after which the committee will visit three to four districts or local municipality per province for public hearings.”

Hearings will get underway on 8 May 2018 in Limpopo and the Northern Cape and will end in the Western Cape on 22 June 2018.

The Committee will split into two groups so as to cover a larger part of the country.

The Joint Committee must report back to parliament by 30 August 2018.
