DAFF Publishes PAIA Description

The agriculture, forestry and fisheries department’s Promotion of Access to Information Act description has been published in Government Gazette 41270.

The act prescribes that all public bodies must provide details of all internal records held so that requests for information can be processed.

The purpose of the act is to foster a culture of transparency and accountability in both the public and private sectors by affording any person the right of access to information to enable them to exercise and protect all of their rights to the full extent required.

The purpose of the department’s description is to give effect to the act, and to provide simplified and user friendly guidelines for the public to request information held by the department.

Detail is provided on the categories of records automatically available for inspection, purchasing, copying and free of charge.

Meanwhile, the department has announced the 2017/18 West Coast Rock Lobster (WCRL) recreational fishing season.

In a statement, the department confirmed that the season will open on 2 December 2017 and close on 2 April 2018.

The 2017/18 WCRL recreational fishing effort will remain at 21 days.
