Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries

In line with the Agricultural Products Standards Act, comments are invited from all affected stakeholders on the proposed inspection fees by Impumelelo Agribusiness Solutions.

The invitation to comment was published in Notice 339 in Government Gazette 41704.

The proposed inspection fees include the following:

•    Fat spreads: R1 509 per product inspection (4 x per annum);
•    Canned vegetables: R1 509 per product inspection (4 x per annum);
•    Container carrying homogenous products: R1 348 per container; and
•    Moisture content in Rooibos: R180.

The proposed fees are VAT exclusive.

Comments should receive the designated assignee, Impumelelo Agribusiness Solutions, within 30 days from the date of publication of the notice.

Meanwhile, the National Agricultural Marketing Council has received a request from the South African Cultivar and Technology Agency (SACTA) for the establishment of a breeding and technology levy (VAT excluded) for the following different winter cereal commodities:

•    Wheat 1/10/2018 to 30/09/2020: R30,00 per metric ton;
•    Barley 1/10/2018 to 30/09/2020: R30,00 per metric ton; and
•    Oats 1/10/2018 to 30/09/2020: R30,00 per metric ton.

The invitation to comment was published in Notice 336.

The proposed statutory levy would relate to locally produced wheat, barley and oats; and will apply to the whole of the country in order to have a uniform system of levies without discrimination, which could exist if levies had to be imposed in certain areas and not in others.

Directly affected groups in the winter cereal industry are requested to submit comments regarding the proposed breeding and technology levy to the Council on or before 29 June 2018.
