Department of Communications

The review of the public broadcasting policy is in the pipeline.

The communications department has called for written proposals on issues for consideration in Government Gazette 41738.

Some of the issues to be considered include the mandate, size and scope of the public broadcaster, governance framework and the carriage of public channels by pay channels.

According to the department, input received will inform and be included in the comprehensive policy broadcasting review to get underway in due course.

Written proposals are invited within 30 days of the date of publication.

In a statement, the department has also announced the release of the Emerging Issues Paper that highlights key issues flowing from various consultative processes on broadcasting policy issues.

Input on the issues paper is invited until 31 August 2018.

The plan is to submit a draft white paper to cabinet for approval by 31 March 2019.
