New Landscape for SETAs on the Cards

Department of Higher Education and Training

A new landscape for Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA) is in the pipeline.

The higher education and training department published the proposed new landscape in Government Gazette 41856 for comment.

It was drawn up in terms of the Skills Development Act.

Principles underpinning the proposed new SETA landscape include fit for purpose, comprehensive coverage, viability and sustainability and value chain and value proposition.

In terms of fit for purpose, the plan is to align skills development strategies with national priorities and the industrial policy framework.

As regards value chain and value proposition, SETAs dealing with related functions are to be grouped together.

Questions to be addressed include which SETAs must be amalgamated, dissolved and established.

Another issue under the microscope is which structures could be rationalized to give effect to skills development.

Comment is invited within 21 working days of the date of publication.
