Nominations for Chairpersons of SETAs Invited

Department of Higher Education and Training

The higher education and training department has called for nominations for chairpersons of accounting authorities for all Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA).

The chairpersons would serve from 1 April 2018 until 31 March 2020.

There are currently 21 SETAs in place.

Written nominations from nominating stakeholders must include, inter alia, a motivation letter, full names of individuals or organisations making a nomination and the nominees’ signed written acceptance of the nomination.

Nominations are invited within 30 days of the date of publication.

Meanwhile, the department has published, in Gazette 41277, an amendment to regulation 14(2) of the SETA Standard Constitution regulations.

The amendment refers to the term of office of the chairperson.

The term may not exceed the period for which the particular SETA is established.

Chairpersons are restricted to two terms of office.

In Gazette 41270, the department has announced the cancellation of the registration of two programmes currently approved to the SANTS Private Higher Education Institution.

The two programmes are Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase (480-Credits: Distance Mode) and a Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase (480-Credits: Distance Mode).

The Council on Higher Education had recently withdrawn the accreditation of the two programmes.
