Appropriation Act Signed

The Presidency

President Zuma has signed the Appropriation Act.

The bill was tabled in parliament on Budget Day 2017.

The act provides for the appropriation of money from the National Revenue Fund for the requirements of the state for the 2017/18 financial year.

In a separate matter, the standing committee on finance has called for comment on the Draft Money Bills Amendment Procedure and Related Matters Amendment Bill.

The proposed legislation aims to amend the act by:

•    Inserting new definitions;
•    Permitting the reasonable extension of timeframes to consider and pass money Bills, including the Division of Revenue Amendment Bill;
•    Providing for the financial management of the Parliamentary Budget Office and for a Board to oversee the structure and conditions of service of personnel of the Office; and
•    Providing norms and standards for amending money Bills before provincial legislatures.

The invitation also indicates that hearings on the draft bill will be held in parliament on 2 August 2017.

Written comment is invited until 26 July 2017.

The draft bill is not yet available.
