CMS Draws Up Proposed Levies for 2018

The health department has published proposed levies for medical schemes in Government Gazette 41259 for comment.

The proposed levies were drawn up by the Council for Medical Schemes in terms of the Council for Medical Schemes Levies Act.

They finance the regulatory and administrative costs of the Council as well as the Registrar of Medical Schemes.

The Council’s budget can be viewed at www.medicalschemes.com.

An amount of R36.13 per principal member per year for 2018/19 is proposed for medical schemes to be paid in two equal installments, the first to be paid not later than 30 April of the levy year and the second to be paid not later than 30 June of the levy year.

Written comment on the proposed levies is invited until 8 December 2017.

Meanwhile, the South African Pharmacy Council has published Good Pharmacy Education Standards in Gazette 41256.

In Notice 184, the Pharmacy Council has published amendments to the Rules Relating to Good Pharmacy Practice.

The amendments focus on minimum standards for the sale of HIV self-screening test kits.

In Notice 1261, the department has published amendments to the schedules of the Medicines and Related Substances Act.
