CRC on Land Expropriation Seeks Comment

Parliament

The Joint Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) on the expropriation of land without compensation has called for written comment on the proposal.

The CRC was set up in March 2018 to review Section 25 of the Constitution and propose constitutional amendments to allow for the expropriation of land in the public interest without compensation.

This follows the passing of a motion on land expropriation without compensation brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters in the national assembly in February 2018.

According to the invitation, the CRC seeks written comment “from all stakeholders on the necessity of and mechanisms for expropriating land without compensation.”

Comment is invited until 31 May 2018.

It can be emailed to pjayiya@parliament.gov.za.

Last month, the CRC also announced that public hearings on the proposal will get underway on 8 May 2018 in Limpopo and the Northern Cape and will end in the Western Cape on 22 June 2018.
