Department of Justice and Constitutional Development

Draft regulations relating to sexual offences courts have been published for comment.

The proposed regulations flow from amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act.

The draft regulations focus on the requirements for the efficient and effective functioning of sexual offences courts.

They were first published for comment in 2015.

The draft regulations also aim to provide for protective measures for victims to be available at the courts and also focus on the needs of people with disabilities.

They deal with requirements for, facilities and available devices, equipment and services at established courts.

Comment is invited until 12 January 2018.

Meanwhile, the final report on the assessment of the impact of decisions of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of Appeal on the transformation of society has been published.

The study was initiated in 2012.

The report calls for constitutional dialogue amongst the three Branches of State to address issues of how to improve the socio-economic conditions of all South Africans.
