Domestic Workers and Contract Cleaners Get New Sectoral Determinations

New sectoral determinations for domestic workers and contract cleaners were published in December 2017.

The labour department published the sectoral determinations in Government Gazette 41326 in terms of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.

According to the amended sectoral determination 7, domestic workers in metropolitan areas working more than 27 hours per week will get R13.05 per hour and a minimum wage of R2545.22 per month.

Domestic workers in metropolitan areas working less than 27 hours per week will earn a minimum rate of R15.28 per hour and R1787.80 per month.

In Notice 1430, contract cleaners are allocated a minimum wage of R20.74 per hour in metros.

Other notices published in December 2017 include:

•    Notice 1470 – application for registration of Bargaining Council for the Fast Food, Restaurant, Catering and Allied Trades.
•    Notice 1465 – extension of period of operation of the Furniture Bargaining Council’s main collective agreement – until 30 April 2020.
•    Notice 1463 – amended directive on applications for first aid training.
