Comment Sought on Draft Land Survey Amendment Bill

A draft bill designed to tighten up how land in South Africa is surveyed has been published for comment.

The rural development and land reform department published the Draft Land Survey Amendment Bill in Government Gazette 41350.

The draft bill seeks to:

•    amend the Land Survey Act, 1997, so as to align certain sections with the structure of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform;
•    provide for the appointment of certain members of the Survey Regulations Board;
•    regulate the survey of land in the Republic of South Africa; and
•    provide for matters connected therewith.

Comment is invited within 60 calendar days of the date of publication.

In Notice 1466, the department has called for comment on proposals to re-align and amend the areas of jurisdiction of the deeds registries in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Comment is invited until 31 January 2018.
