Extension of Security of Tenure Act Regulations Amended

Department of Rural Development and Land Reform

Regulations under the Extension of Security of Tenure Act have been amended.

The rural development and land reform department published the amendment in Government Gazette 41447.

A new sub-regulation (1) to regulation 2 is inserted into the regulations.

It adjusts the prescribed amount for the purposes of paragraph (c) of the definition of "occupier" in section 1 (1) of the Act to an income of R13 625 per month.

Meanwhile, president Ramaphosa, during the State of the Nation Address last week, announced that government will pursue the expropriation of land without compensation.

“We are determined that expropriation without compensation should be implemented in a way that increases agricultural production, improves food security and ensure that the land is returned to those from whom it was taken under colonialism and apartheid.”

The president added that the methods to implement the resolution will flow from a process of consultation.
