Joint CRC Seeks Extension to Reporting Deadline

Parliament

The Joint Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) has requested that the deadline for reporting back to parliament be extended.

The Joint CRC was tasked with reviewing Section 25 of the Constitution and proposing constitutional amendments to allow for the expropriation of land in the public interest without compensation.

Last week, the CRC also resolved to further consider allowing for additional oral presentations.

The position of the CRC is that should further written submissions with requests to present oral submissions be found, then those requests will be considered.

The CRC also resolved that the draft report on the public hearings must be presented by the “administration which appointed the service provider”.

According to the statement, the CRC is scheduled to reconvene early in October 2018.
