DOE Gives Update on Draft Gas Amendment Bill

A Draft Gas Amendment Bill will be tabled in cabinet for approval during the 2017/18 financial year.

The energy department confirmed this during a briefing in parliament on its 2016/17 Annual Report.

The department also declared that consultations with stakeholders to conclude the socio-economic impact assessment process on the Draft National Nuclear Regulator Amendment Bill were underway.

A Draft Nuclear Energy Amendment Bill and a Draft Radioactive Waste Management Fund Bill were also in the pipeline.

The department also reiterated that the Integrated Energy Plan and the Integrated Resource Plan will be placed before cabinet for approval by the end of February 2018 at the latest.

Meanwhile, the schedule for public hearings on Eskom’s revenue application for 2018/19 has been published in Government Gazette 41184.

The National Energy Regulator drew up the schedule. It called for comment on the application in September 2017.

The power utility is asking NERSA for a 19.9% tariff hike for 2018/19.

Hearings commence on 30 October 2017 in Cape Town and conclude in Midrand on 16 November 2017.
