Measures to Boost Governance at Eskom Drawn Up

The Presidency

Government has agreed on measures to strengthen governance at Eskom.

In a statement, the presidency indicated that the new measures flow from a recent meeting involving President Jacob Zuma, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and Minister of Finance Malusi Gigaba.>

According to the presidency, the measures will be ratified by cabinet at its next meeting.

Included is the appointment of new board members, a new Acting Group Chief Executive in Phakamani Hadebe and the removal of all Eskom employees facing corruption allegations.

The presidency also declared that government will “continue to act decisively to address challenges at key state owned enterprises to restore public and investor confidence and to ensure that they fulfil their economic and developmental mandates.”
