Draft White Paper on STI on Track

Department of Science and Technology

An updated Draft White Paper on Science, Technology and Innovation has been drawn up and submitted to a second panel of local stakeholders for consultation.

The science and technology department announced this during a briefing in parliament on its 2017/18 3rd quarter performance.

As regards the Science, Technology and Innovation Institutional Landscape (STIIL) review, the department reported that the panel had handed over the report on the review.

A roadmap to finalise the STIIL review is being developed.

Meanwhile, the department has announced the launch of a bio-refinery facility in Durban.

The first of its kind in South Africa, the facility will “support innovation in a range of industries, including forestry, agro-processing and other biomass-based industries.”

The bio-refinery is the third Industry Innovation Partnerships (IIP) Programme facility to be launched by the department and the CSIR.
