Work to develop a policy on mandatory cover for retirement, disability and survivor benefits is underway.

The social development department confirmed this during a briefing on its third quarter performance in parliament.

Meetings were held during the third quarter with the Nedlac comprehensive social security and retirement reform task team.

Consultations on the draft discussion paper on pregnancy and maternity benefits also took place in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

The implementation plan for the early childhood development policy was also approved for submission to cabinet.

Final national consultation on the draft policy framework on the management of community care workers was conducted.

During its briefing on its fourth quarter performance, the department informed parliament that the draft policy paper on mandatory cover for retirement, disability and survivor benefits had been revised.

The discussion paper on pregnancy and maternity benefits had been revised and finalised.

The department also pointed out that a draft policy framework on the management of community care workers had also been drawn up.

The national integrated plan on early childhood development policy is before the social development minister for approval.
