The Draft Transport Appeal Tribunal Amendment Bill has been published for comment.

The transport department published the proposed legislation in Government Gazette 41202 in terms of the Transport Appeal Tribunal Act.

The draft bill seeks to:

•    amend the Transport Appeal Tribunal Act, 1998 to bring the Act up to date with the developments since the implementation of the Act;
•    provide for certain powers of the Transport Appeal Tribunal;
•    allow the Minister to extend the term of the members of the Tribunal;
•    clarify or simplify various provisions since the implementation of the Act; and
•    provide for matters connected therewith.

According to the bill’s memorandum, the Transport Appeal Tribunal has encountered problems and issues which require amendments to the principal act. The act also needs to be updated to reflect developments since 1998.
